San Luis Potosí

San Luis Potosí is one of the 31 states with the Federal District comprise the 32 federative entities of Mexico. 
It is located in the north central region of the country and occupies a wide area of the Mexican plateau. Its official name is Free and Sovereign State of San Luis Potosi and its land area of 63,068 km is the fifteenth state by extension of Mexico. 

It is located between 24 ° 22 'and 21 ° 07' north latitude and 98 ° 20 'and 102 ° 17' west longitude. It borders to the north with 9 states Nuevo Leon and Coahuila, northeastern Tamaulipas, Veracruz to the east, southeast by Hidalgo, and south of Querétaro, Guanajuato and Jalisco and Zacatecas to the west.

Most important places

Cathedral

Located opposite the Plaza de Armas, this beautiful symbol of the city of San Luis Potosi, in its construction combines baroque and neoclassical styles. The Cathedral, dating from the sixteenth century, is composed of three naves and an octagonal dome, within this you will appreciate beautiful stained glass windows and pictures of the Apostles in marble very original depth Carrara and colonial paintings, including his Altar neoclassical.

Plaza de Armas

Crescent Springs

Potosinas Traditions Museum

The museum is a renovated house dating from 1900. It is a space where the objective is to rescue, promote and disseminate the culture through the traditions and customs of the state of San Luis Potosi. This important cultural center is located right in the heart of the state capital, opposite the Temple of San Agustín and steps from the beautiful Teatro de la Paz.

Federico Silva Museum

The museum has 2 neoclassical temporary exhibition rooms and 6 permanent exhibition halls with the work of renowned Mexican sculptor Federico Silva. It has a large collection of prominent contemporary sculptures may be seen during the journey; at the end will have the opportunity to participate in a workshop approach to sculpture. The museum also functions as a cultural center, because the festivals are held, and courses in music, dance and painting.

National Museum of the Mask

This museum presents the most characteristic of Mexican masks, representing the many folk traditions, historical or symbolic characters in them survive while. Here the anthropological significance of the masks shown as part of universal culture linked to philosophical, religious and mystical aspects. The collection is about 1200 pieces. The museum structure is closely related to the cultural and geographical features of the localities in which the different masks are developed, encompassing various ethnic groups and much of the states of the Mexican Republic. The building was built in the late nineteenth century and shows the magnificence of Potosi cantereros sculptors. Its neoclassical architecture and rich decorated walls and ceilings, as well as his forge and monumental staircase realize the splendor of an era.
